The Indiana Extension Homemakers Association Evansville Fall District meeting was held Aug. 16, 2022 at the Warrick County 4-H Fairgrounds in Boonville. The Abe Lincoln theme was carried out in the decorations, guest speaker, entertainment and even our lunch dessert was Mary Lincoln's white almond cake.

Welcome and introductions were made and State President-Elect Peg Peter gave highlights from the NVON (National Volunteer Outreach Network) conference. It was held in Evansville on July 25-27. Daviess County provided the entertainment with Lawana Hand and Karen Barnard putting together a skit entitled "The First, First Lady." Lillian St. James from WTHI QXYZTV (Lawana) interviewed Sarah Marie Goode (Karen) who will be playing Mary Todd Lincoln in the new movie coming out soon. The guest speaker was Kathleen Crews, director of Santa Claus Museum; previously the lead ranger for Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. She gave some very interesting facts about Lincoln and his family. She brought a sample and talked about the white snake root plant that killed his mother Nancy Hanks Lincoln by getting in the cow's milk that she drank.

After a delicious lunch, the Warrick County Extension Educator Jo Gilreath gave a lesson on "Be kind, Be Happy, Be Healthy." She said a healthy attitude can positively affect your physical health. Some ways to help increase happiness is to be kind, practice positive self-talk, healthy eating, physical activity and maintain social connections.

State President Michelle Roberts, gave her state president message to finish up the day. She first talked about the I-Lead focus groups and activity committees. The theme for her year is "Scatter Kindness the #IEHA Way." The #IEHA Way for her is how homemakers come together to get things done. Her program challenges us to reach out to people that we don't even know we are reaching. She is asking homemakers to make and scatter pocket hearts and also make a difference for people by doing random acts of kindness.

Some dates to mention: IEHA week, October 17-22; Spring District meeting, March 22, 2023, Vanderburgh County Fairgrounds; Vanderburgh County Craft Show 4th week-end in September; NVON Conference in Parkersburg, West Virginia, July 18-20, 2023, and Home and Family Conference June 5-7, 2023.
